Andi Seiler (he/they), Teacher
Andi Seiler is an Ontario College of Teachers certified teacher, with an additional qualification in special education. He obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in the US, and worked as a special education teacher and inclusion director in Oakland, California, for three years. Andi has experience and expertise in supporting students with diverse and extensive support needs in an inclusion setting, with a particular interest in assistive technology and environmental behavior support. They have been trained with the Crisis Prevention Institute in trauma-informed de-escalation, and are a certified WILSON Reading instructor, which is a science of reading based literacy program designed to support students with learning disabilities.
Andi approaches education through a disability justice lens, and prioritizes facilitating spaces where students with diverse strengths and needs are able to flourish and thrive. By engaging in emergent publications written by members of the disability justice community, Andi works to center the voices and experiences of disabled folks in his teaching practice. In the past, Andi has organized and facilitated mentorship programs between older and younger students with disabilities, invited adults with disabilities to speak in his classrooms, and provided professional development and support for general education staff in the area of disability justice and inclusion.
In his free time, Andi loves to garden, hike, paint, and draw. He is new to Toronto and is excited to explore and build community in the city. If you have recommendations for where to find a great cup of coffee in town, definitely let him know!
