Beth Dangerfield B.A., Bed., OCT (she/her)
Owner/Director
Beth is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with additional qualifications and formal training in special education and teaching English as a second language. Beth specializes in delivering intensive academic remediation, specifically ‘Direct Instruction’. She has worked with children and adults with a variety of different needs including Learning Disabilities (LD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). Beth received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Wilfrid Laurier University and her Bachelor of Education from York University.
Beth began her teaching career in Europe teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). Upon moving back to Canada, Beth taught ESL to international students at different language centers in Toronto. After obtaining her Bachelor of Education degree, she worked for Oxford Learning Centers and then Angus Lloyd Associates (ALA). It was at ALA where Beth discovered a passion for working with neurodynamic individuals as a Remediation Specialist. At ALA Beth also administered academic testing and supported teacher training, both meaningful activities that contributed to hear growth and success as a education professional.
In 2011 Beth had her daughter, Abby, who was born with a very rare metabolic condition and extremely complicated health and developmental issues. She took time away from her career to care for Abby and take care of her family. Beth returned to work in 2019 at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital where she was a Family Engagement Specialist. Given her combination of teaching and lived experience, Beth was also an integral part of new staff orientation training teaching both clinical and nonclinical staff about family and patient centered care. In 2019 Beth was awarded the Canadian Patient and Family Leadership Award from Children’s Healthcare Canada.
Outside of being the Owner and Director of Spark Education Services, Beth represents Center for ADHD Awareness, Canada (CADDAC) on the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). She is passionate about advocating for kids with ADHD in the public school system as she believes they are not understood or supported properly.
Beth values life-long learning and has completed a number of additional certification courses in recent years. This training includes the Science of Reading Online Course, San’yas Anti-Racist Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Program, Women’s Health and Safety Training (Scarborough Women’s Center), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Group Facilitation Training (Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital) and Research Ethics and Family Engagement in Research (McMaster University/ Kids Brain Health Network/ CanChild).
