Kat Kiddell , Certified Educator
Kat Kiddell is certified by the Ontario College of Teachers and holds a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Science in Neuroscience and Education from Columbia University in New York.
Kat started teaching at the YM-YWCA of Winnipeg as a swimming instructor. After working at Panorama Mountain Village and Whistler ski resorts in BC, she took a job teaching English in South Korea. It was these experiences that inspired her to pursue teacher training at Lakehead University, where she earned her Bachelor of Education, specializing in Primary/Junior Education. After graduating, she was hired by Canadian Trillinium School in Bangladesh, which led to nearly a decade of teaching abroad at the Ajial Bilingual School in Kuwait, Keystone Academy in China, and the International School of Riga in Latvia.
As she progressed in her career, she developed a passion for the science of learning, and in 2022, she moved to New York to complete her Master of Science in Neuroscience and Education, where she gained a deep understanding of the brain to elevate her evidence-based practice. As an evidence-based practitioner, she incorporates research from education, neuroscience, and psychology to shape her instructional practices.
Kat’s teaching philosophy is guided by her educational background and experience teaching overseas. She believes that teaching is an act of social justice and that all children deserve access to an education that serves them. She approaches teaching with the whole-child education approach and the mindset that everyone is capable of learning.
Throughout her career, Kat has been committed to continuous professional development. She has completed courses in math instruction from Stanford University’s continuing education department, the International Baccalaureate Organization, and the Teacher Training Center, and attended conferences such as the 21CL conference in Hong Kong, and the USA Festival of Education in Maryland. Kat is an avid podcast listener and crafter. She enjoys embroidery, painting (by numbers), and is learning how to sew. She also enjoys embroidery and is a member of the Toronto Guild of Stitchery. When she is not crafting, she enjoys spending time with her dog, Luna, going for walks, and watching mysteries.
