Kaitlin Murczek (she/her), Teacher
Kaitlin is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with specialist qualifications in special education and reading. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and French from Trent University in 2014 and her Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in 2015. Kaitlin also holds certifications in child mental health, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, and from the Crisis Prevention Institute.
She has experience working in both mainstream and Special Education teaching roles in England, York Region, and now, in the Toronto District School Board. Working from a passionately humanist and neurodiversity-affirming perspective, Kaitlin spends her days at school supporting students at the place where their academic progress, mental health, neurodivergent profiles, and social identities intersect. To further support this work, Kaitlin plans to pursue a Master’s degree in social work in the near future.
Kaitlin believes in nurturing the whole child, balancing social, emotional, and cognitive development. She creates a structured, fun, and supportive learning environment where students can build the self-awareness and confidence to take charge of their learning, tackling challenges and advocating for support as needed. Kaitlin stays updated on current evidence-based practices in education, especially regarding literacy and math instruction, learning disabilities, ADHD, and Autism. She loves to share her learning with others, leading professional development opportunities at her school, and excitedly engaging in planning and problem-solving discussions with colleagues, students, and families.
In her free time, Kaitlin loves to explore Toronto’s best spots for food, music, and hiking. At home, she enjoys drawing, knitting, and watching movies with her cat, Lola.
