Philosophy

At Spark we closely adhere to the principles of child/person and family-centered care while implementing the most current and effective teaching practice. We always see the person first and consider all aspects of a child’s life when working with them, including both their physical and mental health.  Every child is different and brings their own set of strengths, challenges, and identity. We value this diversity and believe this is what helps us continue to learn and grow as teachers.

While remediating academics, we believe in simultaneously helping our students build their executive functioning skills, including things like organization and planning, memory, and emotion regulation. These skills are invaluable when it comes to success at school and are built into our programming.

Deciding to pursue intensive academic remediation services is a big step. We appreciate how this impacts a child’s family. We value open communication, transparency, empathy and we always do our best to remain as flexible as possible. Many of the Spark team members bring relevant lived experience to their work. We understand this process in a deeply personal way.
